Tom Reid: The Only Player With A Penalty Shot Goal On Ken Dryden

Spread the love

The first penalty shot Ken Dryden had to face was the only one to get by. Tom Reid of the Minnesota North Stars had the chance at 9:00 of the third period in a game on October 14, 1971 at the Met Center. It was just the second game of the 1971-72 NHL season for both clubs.

Previous to the Reid goal, Henri Richard was the only other player to score in the game. It ended up a 1-1 tie with the penalty shot the only blemish in Dryden’s 39 save performance. At the other end of the ice, Gump Worsley stopped all but one of 33 shots put his way.

In a span of just over a calender year between January, 1975 and February, 1976, Jacques Richard (Atlanta Flames), Bart Crashley (Los Angeles Kings) and Rene Robert (Buffalo Sabres) all had penalty shot chances against Dryden but none were successful.
