On February 18, 1976 at Madison Square Garden, Steve Vickers became the only player in New York Rangers history to collect seven points in a single game. The Rangers hosted the Washington Capitals and took out their frustrations in an 11-4 win. New York was not having a great year but the Caps went into the game looking for just their seventh win in 60 games.

Vickers put up a hat trick with three goals on Washington goalie Ron Low while also assisting on goals by Wayne Dillon, Ron Greschner, Rod Gilbert and Phil Esposito. Vickers and Pat Hickey led the Rangers with five shots each, Hickey scored on two. Ron Low faced a total of 42 shots from the Rangers while New York goalie John Davidson stopped 29 of 33.

On eight occasions, a Ranger has had a six point game. Mika Zibanejad and Anders Hedberg have done it twice. The others include Bill Cook, Frank Boucher, Don Raleigh and Mark Messier. For Vickers, it was his sixth of seven career hat tricks.

In that 1975-76 NHL season, Vickers scored 30 and assisted on 53 for 83 points over 80 games. It was the last of four straight 30+ goal season for the former first round pick. He put in a career high 53 assists. Between 1972-73 and 1981-82, Steve played 698 regular season and 68 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Rangers.
