Eddie Shack Played In The Playoffs With Toronto, Boston and Pittsburgh

Of the six teams that Eddie Shack played for over his NHL career, he reached the post season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins. The bulk was with the Maple Leafs, a team he won four Stanley Cup championships with.

Despite scoring 239 goals over 1,047 regular season games and surpassing the 20 goal plateau five times with five different teams, Shack took on a different role in the playoffs. Over 74 games, he scored just six goals.

Interestingly, of those six goals, two were game winners. In the 1962-63 post season, both his goals won games for the Maple Leafs. The first was game three of the semi-final series against the Montreal Canadiens, a 2-0 victory at the Forum. The second not only won game five of the final series against the Detroit Red Wings but also clinched the Stanley Cup championship.

Shack’s first and last playoff games were played with Toronto. After coming over from the New York Rangers early in the 1960-61 campaign, Eddie played four games for the Leafs in a 4-1 loss to the Red Wings in the opening round. In 1973-74, after rejoining the club, he played four games in an opening round sweep at the hands of the Boston Bruins.
