This was the second Art Ross Trophy win for Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers. He would go on to win a total of ten over his NHL career. His 92 goals, 120 assists and 212 points shattered records. The 92 goals remains today as an NHL record but bigger things were to come for Wayne with 163 assists and 215 points in 1985-86.

For Mike Bossy, his 64 goals were the status quo when it came to his NHL career. In all but one of his ten years in the NHL, he scored no less than 51 goals. On five occasions, he topped the 60 goal plateau. However, his 147 points in 1981-82 were a personal best by 21 points over his 126 in 1978-79 with the New York Islanders.

Peter Stastny put up a career best 139 points for the Quebec Nordiques in 1981-82 on 46 goals and 93 assists. It was the second of six consecutive seasons totaling 100 or more points.

Dennis Maruk was just three points behind Stastny with 136 points on 60 goals and 76 assists. His 76 assists and 136 points remain franchise records for the Washington Capitals. His 60 goals is now number 2 behind the 65 scored by Alex Ovechkin in 2007-08.
