In 1949-50, Terry Sawchuk was in net for all eight Calder Cup playoff games for the Indianapolis Capitals as the team captured the championship, sweeping their way through the post season. The Capitals swept the St. Louis Flyers and Providence Reds before taking out the Cleveland Barons in the final.
The following year, Sawchuk played all 70 games for the Detroit Red Wings, posting a 1.99 goals against average along with eleven shutouts. He earned the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year with nearly 60% of the vote. Al Rollins and Danny Lewicki, both from the Toronto Maple Leafs, were also in the running.
Sawchuk was posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1971 after his tragic death in 1970. Along the way, he was a four-time Vezina Trophy winner, three-time NHL First Team All-Star, four-time NHL Second Team All-Star and a four-time Stanley Cup champion.
