
On October 21, 1967, the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Chicago Blackhawks at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena and were aided by a Ken Schinkel hat trick in a 4-2 win. This was the second win in six games for the upstart Penguins while the Blackhawks dropped to 0-5.
The following night, the Blackhawks hosted another 1967 expansion team at the Chicago Stadium and still couldn’t get their first win of the 1967-68 NHL season. The Los Angeles Kings came to the Windy City and won 5-3. At the time, the Kings were undefeated, going 3-0-2 in their first five. The visitors were powered by a four goal outburst in the second after falling behind 2-0 after 20.
The first game between an expansion team and an Original 6 squad also involved the Penguins. On opening night, October 11, the Montreal Canadiens came to town and won a tight one, 2-1. Jean Beliveau scored the game winner while Andy Bathgate recorded the first goal in Pittsburgh Penguins history.
