After playing junior hockey with the Peterborough TPT’s (Petes) and the St. Catharines Black Hawks, Dick Redmond was the fifth overall pick at the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft by the Minnesota North Stars. In his first year with the Stars, 1969-70, he appeared in just seven games. That number increased to nine in 1970-71 before being traded to the California Golden Seals for the remainder of the season.

Over his 16 games with the North Stars, Redmond did not record a goal. However, he did record his first point. On October 29, 1969, the Stars hosted the Montreal Canadiens and Dick assisted on a third period goal by Bill Goldsworthy.

That game was the first time Dick would play against his brother Mickey Redmond in the NHL. Mickey went without a point in the 4-1 Minnesota win. Dick’s last of the seven games that year was against the Habs, just a week later. In that one, Mickey had an assist in the 2-2 tie at the Montreal Forum.

Dick Redmond played 771 regular season games in the National Hockey League between 1969-70 and 1981-82 with the Minnesota North Stars, California Golden Seals, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Flames and Boston Bruins.
