Craig Ramsay led the NHL in 1977-78 with 5 goals on the penalty kill. He was one ahead of a three-way log jam between Bill Barber, Don Saleski and Greg Polis. It was not a career high for Ramsay, he scored seven shorties in 1974-75. Over his NHL career, 27 of Craig’s 252 regular season goals were scored shorthanded. In the post season, it was two of 17.
In an October 20, 1977 home game against the Colorado Rockies, Ramsay had three goals, the first on the power play, the second shorthanded and the third even strength. He also had an assist on a Don Luce shorthanded marker in the 7-5 win. His even strength goal was the game winner.
In 1977-78, Craig’s other shorthanded markers came against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Cleveland Barons, New York Islanders and Vancouer Canucks. He had one other shorthanded assist, in a 5-5 tie with the Vancouver Canucks.
Ramsay was a second round pick by the Sabres at the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft after playing junior hockey with the Peterborough Petes. Between 1971-72 and 1984-85, he played 1,070 regular season and 89 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with Buffalo.
